Demo Patch Development Update 12/4/2018

It’s the final month of the year, and the demo patch completion is closer than it ever was before. With everything that we've done this month, the game is quickly starting to feel like we originally imagined!

Here's a summary of what we've accomplished this month:

  • New preference screen
  • 3D camera work
  • Choice selection animations
  • Route completion notifications
  • (Re)Written and edited 2 routes to 100% completion
  • General coding cleanup

New Preferences Screen

Preferences
A look more unique to the feel of the game.

3D Camera Work

  • We decided to look into the 3D camera for ren'py and test it out and liked how it looked in-game, so we've modified the CGs to work with it! It also game us some flexibility with some of the scenes that really add a little more "oomph" to the backgrounds, you know?

Choice Selection Animations

  • When you play the new demo, choices will now be followed by an animation of a beating heart . We want Alice’s Reverie to be a game where it’s easy to get the good endings, but we also wanted to make sure it was easy to access the bad ends as well.

Route Completion Notifications

  • Another new addition to the features of the game is now that when you complete each characters’ route, there will be an icon that lets you know. Once you complete all 6 main character’s routes, you will be able to access Morrigan’s route. Obviously, this will play a bigger part in the full version of the game, but we’re letting you get a taste of this feature in the demo.

100% Writing Completion

  • Lulu and Skylar's routes have been completely finished and are ready to code in to the game! However, will be waiting until all of the routes are done before we do any coding in. Thankfully, with the other ones being fully planned out, the writing will be completely done very, very soon!

General Code Cleanup

  • As we do approach the completion of writing for the routes, we've also been cleaning up things in the code such as transitions between scenes and simplifying the screen language so that we can guarantee that they will do what they're supposed to. Once all this is done, it'll make it easier on us to be able to just plop in the new and fixed dialogue without having to worry about anything else.

Current Progress on the Patch is as Follows:

We thank you for your time, and once again encourage you to leave a comment below if you have any questions/comments regarding the demo patch or with update. We'll see you next month with another big update (hopefully about the full game!)
